  • Needles: Deciduous (fall from the tree in winter); on current twigs, needles are borne singly; on older twigs needles are borne on woody pegs in clusters of 20-40; 1-2" long; yellow-green.

  • Fruit: Small, woody cones (1-2" long); papery bracts are longer than scales.

  • Twigs: Have conspicuous pegs where needles occur.

  • Distribution: Occurs in the intermountain region of the Pacific Northwest, generally at 2300-7700 ft. (700-2350 m) elevation.
