Size: Grows to 100' tall and 3' in diameter,
but may also be shrubby.

Leaves: Simple,
alternate, evergreen. Thick and leathery; 3"-5" long;
bluish white fuzz underneath; margins smooth or toothed.

Fruit: Acorns
with spiked caps.

Twigs: Stout; buds clustered at tips; star-shaped
pith.

Bark: Thin with flattened ridges or plates.
- Distribution: It grows only in southwestern
Oregon and California, from sea level to about 5000'.
