Oregon ash (Fraxinus latifolia)

  • Size: Grows to 80' tall and 3' in diameter.

  • Leaves: Pinnately compound (5-9 per leaf), opposite, deciduous. Leaflets are roughly elliptical with smooth or very slightly serrated margins.

  • Fruit: Single samaras that may hang in clusters. Shaped like a canoe.

  • Twigs: Opposite twigs and buds. Stout.

  • Bark: Up to 2" thick; grayish-brown; flattened ridges.

  • Distribution: Found along the western coasts of Oregon and California and up through Washington along streams, sloughs, and in rich lowlands.
