Oregon crab apple (Pyrus fusca or Malus fusca) Size: Small trees that grow to 40' or large shrubs, often growing in thickets. Leaves: Simple, alternate, deciduous. Egg-shaped; 1"-4" long; margins serrated or lobed and serrated. Fruit: Small apples (1/4"-3/4" in diameter); yellow to red in color. Twigs: Reddish-brown; spur shoots on older branches; no thorns (although some branch tips may be sharp). Distribution: Grows only west of the Cascade summit.
