Oleaster, Russian Olive (Elaeagnus)

This genus of small, bushy trees (commonly planted in rural districts of eastern Oregon) is not native to Oregon and is currently not fully described on this website.

 

  • Leaves: simple, small (1-3 inches long) narrow leaves with blunt tips; silver colored and scaly underneath
  • Flowers: Fragrant, pale yellow
  • Fruit: Small, one-seeded, olive-like, silver in color and mealy inside
  • Twigs: Silver colored; spines at base of leaves
